Owl City started as an independent project by insomniac Adam Young in a basement in Owatonna, Minnesota. Owl City popularity began on MySpace profile where a few of his tracks had landed over 6 million plays.* Hi first two independent releases both landed on the billboard charts, an EP called “Of June” at #20 and “Maybe I’m Dreaming” on the same chart at #16. In 2009 Owl City signed with Universal Republic. The project now backed by a band has released it’s third album called “Ocean Eyes” which features more of the same sound that has led the band to it’s popularity so far. The familiar soft ambient melodies, electronic key-boards and soft choruses that instill that bubbly feel-good positive feeling and I wouldn’t mind playing the album while working or if I had listened to everything else in the car a few million times.
*At the time of this post the single “Fireflies” had over 17 million plays.
